New Hires πŸŽ‰

A big congratulations to all the Scrimba students who've landed jobs this week!

Congratulations to Vandit who is on the 4th day of a new job!

Nashit came to Scrimba to study React. He did Bob’s Learn React for free course, and now has a job as a React frontend dev! He says Bob is a great instructor and he wishes everyone in the community well in their job search.

Ashton has got a freelance gig merging an old website with a new one. He hopes it will open up new opportunities for him…we think it will because that is how freelancing works! No one needs a web dev just once!

Ashton will carry on with the Career Path in the meantime!

Curator has got an internship as a React.js dev. Bob’s course enabled them to go further than they ever thought they would! Curator hopes to stay active in Discord and give others help and support.

And last but not least, Shaswat has just started as a frontend intern! We wish him all the best with that!!

Fab Resource πŸ“š

We introduce to you..... an all-inclusive resort of CSS buttons 🀩

CSS Scan provides tons of inspo for your next project. They have 80+ styles of buttons, box-shadow examples, and more!

If you're looking for some design ideas to include in your next scrim, this is the place! They even have awesome gradient rainbow buttons! 🌈

Ask an Expert πŸ’»

This Wednesday, September 21, we are hosting a very special live stream. We'll hear from three successful Scrimba students who have landed their very first web developer jobs! ✨

πŸ—¨οΈ Silvia, a Frontend Engineer at OMP, will share how she learned React and managed a career change after several years in another industry.

πŸ—¨οΈ Ineza, a Full-stack engineer at Relevant Bits, will tell us about his unusual, but effective, job search approach and the struggles he overcame when learning to code.

πŸ—¨οΈ James, a Frontend Developer at Ducky.eco, will talk to us about how he built original and fun projects to show off his impressive coding skills.

We'll also discuss:
πŸ’œ How to learn to code without school or a bootcamp
πŸ’œ Staying motivated
πŸ’œ What, if anything, they would change about their job hunt
πŸ’œ How to avoid, or get out of, Tutorial Hell
πŸ’œ What to expect from your first weeks as a developer
πŸ’œ Their biggest wins so far since being hired
πŸ’œ Their top pieces of advice for budding developers

Don't forget to set a reminder for the stream πŸ”” so you don't miss your chance to ask your fellow Scrimbians a question!

Scrimba Podcast πŸŽ™οΈ

Meet Quincy Larson πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ! Quincy is the founder of freeCodeCamp, a nonprofit company that makes coding accessible for all. He is a self-taught developer who learned to code when he was 31. Why did he learn to code? Because he wanted to make a school he was a director of more efficient. So... We have a career changer!πŸš€

So, how does a teacher teach himself to code? And how does he teach others?πŸ€” In this episode, Alex asks hard questions 🧠, and Quincy answers all of them, sharing valuable insights on how adults learn, how important are your intrinsic capabilities, and why learning a new skill after the age of 25 might be easier than you think. You will also learn about the hacker ethic, how you can overcome your limitations, and why software developers need to be humble.

Live-code Fun! πŸ’œ

This week, Leanne and Michael discovered CSS Grid on the Friday live stream!

They covered:

⬜ Building a simple grid
⬛ Responsive grids
⬜ An image grid

They built...wait for it... The Pumpkin Grid! 🀩

Watch the replay to see the magic of CSS grid - and the magic of Pumpkin!
