New Hires ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Congrats to this week's many new hires! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ†

Jay started on Scrimba two months ago to pick up front-end development. โ€œI never thought that Scrimba would help me land a role even before I graduate from the Career Path. Project-based learning has been helping me solidify the concepts I've learned.โ€

Jay shared some tips that helped him during his process:

Experience:

"The company I chose to go with has three interviews: HR screening, technical/live coding interview, and behavioral interview":

  1. HR screening focuses on talking about your past experiences and other general things.
  2. The technical/live coding interview discusses your technical experiences and the company's tech stack. They also assess your coding skills (Leetcode type of questions, unfortunately ๐Ÿ˜ฌ)
  3. The behavioral interview will try to see if you're the right fit culturally.

Tips:

  1. Write a โœจ really good โœจ cover letter and resume.
  2. If you're targeting an engineering role, depending on where you are, you might need to spend time practicing Leetcode type of questions.
  3. Apply before you're ready.
  4. Show them you're willing to learn ๐ŸŽ“

Hsagarthegr8 has been hired by ๐ŸApple as a UI dev. They have really enjoyed learning CSS with Scrimba.

Wow, working for Apple must be pretty cool and really competitive, so massive congrats there! ๐ŸŽ‰

โ€‹

Phil got hired as a software developer and has just signed the contract! ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ‘

โ€‹

Robbie has also been hired as a paid intern, with a chance to get hired as a developer. The company liked Robbieโ€™s design skills and mentioned that this is something that CS grads often lack. Robbie thanks Scrimba for these ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

If you scroll down from Robbieโ€™s message, he has given some more info, so definitely worth a read!

โ€‹

Anna has gotten hired as an intern for an international company. She starts in September with six weeks of training.

She says she is overwhelmed and anxious but happy. Itโ€™s all goodโ€ฆalways a little bit scary to start something new, but we're sure you're going to fly! ๐Ÿ›ซ

Fab Resource ๐Ÿ“š

CSS animations are fun but can be tricky to create when there are so many attributes out there to include. That's why Ana Travis created animista.net, an interactive playground to create complex CSS animations with just the click of a few buttons!

Ask an Expert ๐Ÿ’ป

In next week's Wednesday stream, we are delighted to be joined by Scrimba developer Matias, who'll give us an introduction to npm (Node Package Manager).

๐Ÿ’œ npx

Set a reminder ๐Ÿ›Ž๏ธ to join us this Wednesday, August 31st at 5pm BST to hear Matias' tips, tricks, and resources for all things npm.

Scrimba Podcast ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

Meet Silvia Piovesan ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น! Silvia is a Scrimba student who recently got four job offers after four different interviews. But her success didn't come overnight! Silvia used to be a project manager in the pharmaceutical industry - where she first got interested in coding. After she got laid off (and became a mom!), she wanted to learn to code so that she could become a knowledgeable project manager in IT... before realizing that she actually wanted to code!

โ€‹In this episode, Silvia reveals what's the similarities between learning to code and hiking Camino de Santiago, as well as her approach to learning and finding a job as a new developer. Alex and Silvia also discuss goal setting, and why it's not a good idea to give your 100% every day.

Live-code Fun! ๐Ÿ’œ

This week, Leanne and Michael coded up a weight converter! โš–๏ธ

They looked at:
โš–๏ธ Adding inputs for the weight values
โš–๏ธ Converting weight values using JS
โš–๏ธ Rounding the results
โš–๏ธ Reversing the conversion
โš–๏ธ Converting US๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ to UK๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง units!

โ€‹Watch the stream to see how this challenge weighed on them! ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ
