New Hires 🎉

Big congratulations to all the Scrimba students who’ve landed jobs this week! 🥳 🎉

Barbara says with a big smile on her face that she has gotten hired! She has been coding for 3 years, and came to Scrimba to study React. She has left some tips:

1. Don’t just follow the course, also do some background reading
2. Take your time. It is a process. There are ups and downs, but each down makes you jump higher
3. Be open to different resources
4. Get out of your comfort zone and meet new people
5. Do not learn everything - it is better to really explore and focus on 1-3 topics.
6. Learn git and use github/gitlab. Do not delete your work, even if the script you wrote was simple - this is your journey, be proud of that.
7. Do stuff on your own, but it’s okay to ask people for help.

I Built This 🛠️

Zien has built out his version of Twimba! Here are some key features they accomplished:

💾 Local Storage for all of the app (Tweets/Likes/Replies/Retweets/Comments)

🚮 Ability to delete his own tweets and replies - he thanks fellow Scrimba member Bill for his help in this part, as his app was deleting replies in an unexpected way.

Scrimba Podcast 🎙️

Meet Sylvialynn Favello 🇺🇸! Sylvia got exposed to coding accidentally: by watching online courses for fun after she took a break from work and studying so that she could have surgery. Today, she works at Docker! She will teach us how to stay on track even when our brains don’t want to.

​In this episode, Sylvia will give us her insights on how to recognize you’re heading towards burnout, how to keep learning fun, and how to remain motivated. She also talks about working on her self-confidence and public speaking by participating in communities and Twitter spaces (the latter is also how she met her hiring manager!), as well as how she found a way to enjoy the learning process for what it is. Spoiler alert: you’ll get many unconventional study tips, but they might work for you!

Alex and Sylvia also discuss programming with ADHD, why being a developer is rewarding, and how you can turn perceived failures into learning experiences.
